Comments on bioclimatic architecture
By Ath. Zoulias, architect - planner

I have read with great interest the positions of our Association on the a) "Framework of principles and guidelines for the production of built space" and the b) "Amendments – propositions by SADAS-Panhellenic Union of Architects on the bill entitled: 'Issuing of building permits, inspection of new constructions, amendments of the provisions on the land registry and other provisions'", as well as the positions and comments of SADAS on semi-exterior spaces in relation with the Ministry's propositions for the reshaping of legislation on the building code.

I must note that (unless I'm missing something) there is NO reference to principles and constructions of bioclimatic architecture, passive solar systems and the recently subsidized photovoltaic elements and small wind turbines. Since I believe that the development of relevant legislation and guidelines in Greece, for such interesting topics as these, is a very important subject, and since I have no indication whatsoever that the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works in its current form (without the creation of the much anticipated separate "Ministry of Environment" or "Ecology and Sustainable Development" or whatever else it may be called) is in a position to produce something like that, I wonder whether it would be useful to start such a thinking exercise and a series of propositions based on the local experience and tradition as well as on examples and experiences developed in other countries. This thinking exercise, not only on an individual level but also, perhaps, in a committee of the Association or the Technical Chamber could promote the formulation of legislation on bioclimatic and eco-friendly buildings. Our website is open to host the starting of such a thinking exercise before our collective bodies take the initiative and calls on every one interested to publicly express their suggestions.
